About

An educational tour designed and organized by Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI) Guided by Maria Micallef and Joseph Mifsud, experts on Malta history and prehistory, this 7-day tour will lead you through beautiful Malta, and its sister island Gozo, to see the oldest megalithic temples on Earth, as well as many other important places in Malta’s history. Throughout the tour, you will be staying in four-star comfort at the Osborne Hotel.

The tour is based in beautiful Valletta, Malta’s capital, and features excursions to the Ggantija Temples of Gozo, and many temples in Malta, including Skorba, Ta Hagrat, Hagar Qim, and more. In addition, you will visit historic sites such as Ghar Dalam Cave, which houses the remains of extinct Pleistocene animals as well as Neolithic artifacts, and St. Paul’s catacombs, where people of all religions were laid to rest between the Punic and Byzantine periods.

An unforgettable experience awaits you on our visit to the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, the subterranean Neolithic necropolis dating 4000-2500 BC. When discovered by accident in 1902, it contained the remains of 7000 individuals with their grave goods, some of which are on display in the National Museum, which we also will visit. We will explore the two haunting chamber levels with a special guide and experience its uncanny echoes.

As no one can enjoy Malta without also experiencing the local culture, you will also visit Marsaxlokk, a fishing village since Roman times. The tour will also feature ample opportunities to taste Malta’s exquisite cuisine. Overall, your experience will lead you through all the known periods of Malta’s unique history, including its pivotal role in World War II as a front-line bastion that suffered serious damage from German bombers.
